If you have a diesel engine, and you want to be more conscious about the waste your vehicle is producing and putting into the environment, biodiesel fuel can be a great alternative. You can purchase biodiesel, or you can create your own. Here are the primary ingredients used to create biodiesel.

#1 Used Cooking Oil

The primary ingredients used in biodiesel is used cooking oil. However, used cooking oil can be put directly into the mixture to create biodiesel. First, the used cooking oil has to be filtered so that all food particles that have made their way into the oil can be properly removed. You don't want to use unfiltered cooking oil, as all the small food particles that get into the oil could damage your engine.

You also have to heat up the cooking oil in order to remove any water that may have gotten into the oil. You don't want to put oil into your engine either.

#2 Methanol

Methanol is an important ingredient in biodiesel. However, it is really combustible and sensitive. It is also something that you don't want to breathe in or even touch with your bare hands.

If you choose to make your own biodiesel, you need to make sure that you take the proper safety precautions. Be sure to wear a respirator mask, safety glasses, gloves and protective clothing. Make sure you use the right ration of methanol in your biodiesel fuel mix.

#3 Methoxide

Methoxide is an organic salt. It is easy to work with and is not as toxic and fragile to work with as methanol. If you make your own biodiesel fuel, you are going to want to add methoxide for the solution at two different stages, so you'll need to measure the methoxide necessary for the biodiesel into two different containers.

#4 Sulfuric Acid

Finally, you are going to add sulfuric acid to the biodiesel mixture. This is another ingredient that you need to be really careful with. You don't want to breathe in or get sulfuric acid on your clothing. Sulfuric acid is an important ingredient in the biodiesel creation process.

When making biodiesel, make sure that you have the proper protective gear to wear. You want to protect your eyes, hands, and skin. You also should wear a respiratory mask so you don't breath in any fumes while creating your own biodiesel.

It is possible to make your own biodiesel for your truck. Just make sure that you fix up your engine so that it responds well to biodiesel and stay on top of engine repair and maintenance if you plan on using your own biofuel. Contact shops like A & B Truck Recycling to get more advice.
